Design Documents
This is a boss design proposal made for the game Elden Ring, of which at the moment (May 2020) I knew very little about. In the document you will find more context on the inspiration for the boss, a description of the setting, a physical description of the boss and the mechanics of the fight.

Karma Tower
This is a pitch document for a platformer-esc game.
Story:
This is a world in which, a long, long time ago, holy powers created different places and artifacts to protect and guide all human beings. Multiple societies were developed around these holy creations and use them to protect their peace.
One of these holy places is a prison tower in which the worst criminals are thrown in. Inside the tower, the prisoners experience the equivalent of multiple cycles of death and rebirth. First possessing small, dirty and fragile animals and only by respecting their lives and overcoming the hardships these animals have to live with, can the prisoners progress towards the exit. As they go to higher floors, they find bigger and better habitats with more strong and beautiful animals, giving the prisoners a sense of progression in their journey. When they get to the top, they have had to overcome many hardships, living as many different kinds of creatures, all with their own hardship but also with their own abilities and value within the world. Once reformed they are ready to reintegrate into society.
The tower perceives the karma a prisoner has and the mental state they are in. Once the
prisoner has abandoned any thoughts of revenge, hatred and pride, and is ready to start a new life, the tower gives them the opportunity to escape. Only by showing kindness the prisoners can progress, act which also allow them to perceive the beauty of life in all its forms.
Synopsis:
In the game Karma Tower, the player takes control of a prisoner that resides at the bottom of a giant prison tower where the only way out is getting to the top. The main character has been in this tower for so long that he is barely capable of walking. While on the bottom of the tower he touches a rat that is passing near him and by doing this he learns that he is able of transferring his consciousness to any animal he touches. This can be done when using his original body or the body of any other animal he may be possessing at the time.
The objective is to escape from the prison by reaching the top floor of the tower. To do this the player will possess different animals to unlock stairs and other passages in the prison that will enable him to move his fragile body up the tower. The animals in the tower will vary drastically as he goes up. First encountering small animals that live in dark places like rats, bats, and cockroaches to more free, big and powerful animals like tigers and eagles. This is possible due to the nature of the tower that has bigger and more alive environments the higher the floor is.
The idea is to promote a kind style of play, where the player is punished for hurting the animals he possesses and encounters, by making the floors consistently harder until the animal he possess is killed and he is forced to start from the beginning of the current floor he is in. For this reason, easy routes where the player hurts many animals end up being the harder route, while strategies that require more thought are found to be the best route of action in the long term.
The game is at heart an adventure puzzle game with a solemn feel to it. I want to communicate to the players a feeling of mystery for the place they are in, along with a sense of reflection and awe as they go up the tower, kind of how the game ICO makes you feel while trying to escape the fortress alongside Yorda.
