Starting work on a new game
I’ve started working on a new game as a level designer alongside my girlfriend who is the creative lead, programmer and artist. The game is about moving at the rhythm of the music to reach the end of the level. The player moves one tile at the time and so do the enemies. If the player doesn’t follow the tempo they are unable to move.
We want the players to feel like they are walking in a music video while enjoying the romanticized sights of a city. We are focused on creating a casual game that players can enjoy without having to put dozens of hours into it while also providing some content for those who want to master it.
Though we know the core experience we want to deliver there are still many variables we need to define. For now we want to test making some enemies to add a challenge beyond following the tempo. The plan is to create a test level to see how much fun the game is with just this basic mechanics and how much else it needs if any.
